Susheela Raman GHOST GAMELAN feat. Phaedra

Part of Women in Music at Southbank Centre

Experience a one-off sonic encounter of voice, guitar, gamelan, percussion and strings at a live performance of Susheela Raman’s new album, Ghost Gamelan.

The album, Raman’s seventh, weaves a rich and strange musical experience from her sublime voice and the mesmerising sounds of the Javanese gamelan percussion orchestra.

Raman is joined on stage by longtime collaborator guitarist Sam Mills, a team of gamelan virtuosos led by Indonesian composer Gondrong Gunarto, and string players from London’s experimentalist Phaedra Ensemble.

The Heliocentrics’ drummer Malcolm Catto, maverick rising Parisian percussion star Lucie Antunes, and Ravi Shankar accompanist Pirashanna Thevarajah provide rhythmic fireworks, while Dudley Phillips, formerly with Robert Wyatt and Bill Withers, weighs in on bass and double bass.
