(G)Rave

Part of (B)old

See Mark Baldwin’s expressive new piece, choreographed for (B)old. Dancers aged 50 and over perform to ‘Siegfried's Funeral March’ from Wagner's Gotterdammerung.

(G)Rave is a one-off performance by a new cast of dancers brought together from some of the capital’s most established senior companies.

Baldwin, assistant choreographer Dane Hurst and designer Michael Howells collaborate with the dancers to showcase the creative contribution of older artists.

Following the first performance at approximately 3.20pm, Mark Baldwin will discuss with audiences his inspiration and the choreographic process used to create the piece with the group. Audiences can then see the piece performed again.

Baldwin explains that the G in (G)Rave stands for ‘great histories... great dancers, great expressions.’

Mark Baldwin OBE is the outgoing Artistic Director of Rambert with over 40 years’ experience. Mark's indigenous Fijian roots play an important part in his approach, which uses both grounded and jumping elements as part of a rich movement vocabulary.

Assistant choreographer Dane Hurst’s work has been performed in theatres across United Kingdom, South Africa and Rwanda.

Designer Michael Howells has designed sets for Christian Dior, Christian Lacroix and Alexander McQueen. His film credits include production design for Victoria, Bright Young Things and Emma.
