Concrete Dreams Beacon

Listen to some of the stories behind Southbank Centre at installation Concrete Dreams Beacon, designed to mark the reopening of our iconic Brutalist buildings.

A symbol of Southbank Centre’s heritage, Concrete Dreams Beacon plays voice recordings of people involved in the history and refurbishment of Hayward Gallery, Queen Elizabeth Hall and Purcell Room.

Hear stories from Jude Kelly CBE, Southbank Centre’s former Artistic Director; Liliane Lijn, visual artist and contributor to Hayward Gallery’s 1970 group show Kinetics; and Peter Day, engineer at construction company Higgs & Hill. The Beacon was created by LYN Atelier and KlangHaus.
