The English Patient is the story of Count László de Almásy, who is badly burned in a plane crash, and tells his love story in flashbacks whilst he is cared for by a nurse.
The film, starring Ralph Fiennes and Kristin Scott Thomas, was released in 1997 and achieved critical acclaim, winning nine Academy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards and six BAFTA Awards.

Michael Ondaatje won the Man Booker Prize in 1992 with The English Patient. He is one of the world’s foremost writers whose work has influenced an entire generation of writers and readers.
Although he is best known as a novelist, Ondaatje’s work also encompasses poetry, memoir, and film, and reveals a passion for defying conventional form. He is one of only two authors whose work has won the Man Booker Prize and an Oscar.
