Kamila Shamsie: Setting the Scene

Part of Man Booker 50

How can creating a vivid setting for your fiction influence the story you're trying to tell?

In this workshop, Kamila Shamsie invites participants to explore the art of scene setting through a shared writing exercise and reflects on the way that novelists use setting to shape their stories.

Kamila Shamsie was longlisted for the 2017 Man Booker Prize for Fiction for her novel Home Fire. She is one of the five judges selecting the Golden Man Booker Winner as part of the prize’s 50th anniversary celebrations in 2018. She is the author of seven novels, including In the City by the Sea; Kartography, Burnt Shadows and A God in Every Stone.

Shamsie was named a Granta Best of Young British Novelist in 2013. She grew up in Karachi and now lives in London
