Graeme Macrae Burnet: Using Your Research

Part of Man Booker 50

In this workshop, Graeme Macrae Burnet will discuss the various aspects of the research he carried out for His Bloody Project and how it shaped the narrative and characters of the book.

Illustrating the discussion with pages from his own notebooks, Burnet will explore how to know what to research, when to stop and the extent to which historical accuracy matters.

Graeme Macrae Burnet was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize in 2016 with His Bloody Project, which was also shortlisted for the LA Times Mystery Book of the Year, and won the Satire Prize for Fiction and the Vrij Nederland Thriller of the Year. His French-set debut, The Disappearance of Adèle Bedeau, was a cult hit and won a Scottish Book Trust New Writers’ Award. His third novel, The Accident on the A35, was published to critical acclaim in October 2017.

Burnet has appeared at festivals and events across the world and is currently working on his fourth novel. He was brought up in Kilmarnock and now lives in Glasgow.
