Alfred Brendel - My Musical Life

Part of (B)old

Hear Alfred Brendel, one of the world’s great pianists, reflect on the role of music in his life and career at this talk.

Until his retirement from public performance in 2008, Alfred Brendel was one of world's truly great pianists, renowned for his interpretations of Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms and Liszt in particular.

No friend of autobiographies, Brendel presents a survey of his musical life in this event. His emphasis is on the word ‘musical’, as he holds the opinion that the private person and the artist are not an equation, and one doesn't necessarily illuminate the other.

He intends to consider what stimulated, formed and amused him, and to point out how it is feasible in this profession to remain largely independent.
