Masayoshi Fujita - Tears of Unicorn (Vibraphone Version)

Masayoshi Fujita

Hear Berlin-based composer and vibraphonist Masayoshi Fujita’s latest experimental sounds from Book of Life, the final album in his trilogy of solo vibraphone recordings.

The most recent album sees the vibraphone accompanied by more orchestral elements and voices, creating a wider landscape of sound.

Having trained as a drummer, Masayoshi began experimenting with the vibraphone – a relatively new instrument. He seeks to explore the untapped textures of vibraphone music by modifying his vibraphone with objects including beads and strips of foil and playing it using different methods.

The resulting new sounds help to expand the vibraphone spectrum without eroding the instrument’s intrinsic character. Hear what new possibilities can be invented for this instrument when Masayoshi performs live.

Fujita’s gilded, dream-like recollections keep their shape without gravity keeping them down
The Line Of Best Fit
Beautiful and playful... It’s a brief foray into a very nuanced world, a master craftsman plucking at your heartstrings mercilessly, and one you don’t really want to come out of
