Film Screening

Summer Film Nights: Hairspray

Part of Summer at Southbank Centre

Let your hair down at this free screening of the original 1988 version of Hairspray, the oddball teen dance drama directed by John Waters.

At this screening presented by Electric Pedals, jump on one of the bikes to pedal power our screen, or bring a blanket and cushion and get comfortable while you watch.

Featuring Divine, Ricki Lake, Sonny Bono and Debbie Harry, this musical comedy set in 1960s Baltimore tells the tale of teenager Tracy Turnblad and how her dreams come true when she becomes the newest star on a television dance programme.

Tracy, played by Ricki Lake, finds herself the focus of some dirty tricks at the hands of rival Amber Von Tussle and her pushy parents – but Tracy is more concerned with her campaign against racial segregation.
