Hear music from the Renaissance to right now performed on the 17th-century viola da gamba by Liam Byrne.
Byrne has played with many leading European early music ensembles including, the Huelgas Ensemble, Dunedin Consort, Academy of Ancient Music, and Fretwork, as well as making new music with composers and contemporary musicians, including Nico Muhly, Donnacha Dennehy and David Lang. He has made sound installations for the V&A, Dulwich Picture Gallery, and in collaboration with Nico Muhly for the National Gallery.
Last year saw the release of Tessellatum, a duo album with violist Nadia Sirota with music by Donnacha Dennehy, and Valgeir Sigurðsson's Dissonance, for which Byrne co-authored the title track. He is a member of the Icelandic artist collective and record label Bedroom Community.
