My Dirty Secret

Part of Unlimited

Get your fill of filth at a free installation inspired by artist Kristina Veasey's frustration as a disabled person trying to keep up with the housework.

Relax in the armchair, sit at the table, draw the curtains, open the mail and answer the telephone. The objects in Veasey’s experiential artwork are covered in kaleidoscopic prints created from the dirt in her home.

On the television there is an audio-visual exploration of your surroundings, while domestic sounds and captured conversations about dirt play in the background.

Through humour and surprise, the installation prompts visitors to observe the everyday in new ways. Will you be so swift to vacuum under the sofa, or pause to reimagine the discarded treasures beneath?

Commissioned and supported by the Unlimited programme, celebrating the work of disabled artists, with funding from Spirit of 2012.
