Violet Nights: Homeless in the City

Hear personal accounts of homelessness and from experts in the field at this month’s Violet Nights, where we focus on the homelessness crisis.

Figures from housing and homelessness charity Shelter show that 1.15m households are on waiting lists for social housing, but only 290,000 social homes were made available last year. The UK is experiencing a housing and homelessness crisis – and vulnerable people are routinely fined and imprisoned for begging and rough sleeping.

Hear from organisations working on the ground to solve these issues and from young people who have direct experience of homelessness.

Violet Nights is a monthly event at Southbank Centre that offers a space for young people to explore ideas, socialise and experience art.
