Polari: First Book Prize

Part of London Literature Festival

Polari and London Literature Festival unite for more literary sparkle and mayhem as the beloved salon celebrates 2018's best LGBTQ+ writing.

Author Stella Duffy headlines this evening, where the winner of The Polari First Book Prize 2018 is revealed.

Duffy is joined by Matt Cain, David Llewellyn, Laura Kaye and Mark O’Connell, who all read from their latest works.

Duffy has published over 65 short stories, 14 plays and 16 novels. She has twice won the CWA Short Story Dagger, twice won Stonewall Writer of the Year and won the inaugural Diva Literary Fiction award in 2017.

Her latest novel, Money in the Morgue, a continuation of Dame Ngaio Marsh’s abandoned manuscript, was long-listed for the 2018 CWA Historical Dagger.

Described by Attitude Magazine as ‘one of the most important important commentators of his generation’, author, journalist and founder of Polari Paul Burston hosts the evening.

Polari is a unique mix of voices that provokes the strongest responses from its audience – love, laughter, tears, but most of all, thought
