No Enemies

Discover the words of Nobel Peace Prize laureate Liu Xiaobo and his widow Liu Xia in a live performance based on their poetry, rarely performed in the UK.

Explore the love story of the two artists against the backdrop of China, from the late 1980s until the 2000s. Hear their work translated into English along with excerpts from the original Chinese.

July this year marked the first anniversary of Liu Xiaobo’s death and also saw the release of Liu Xia, who was placed under house arrest in 2010.

Liu Xiaobo was first jailed due to his involvement in the Tiananmen Square movement in 1989. His continuous peaceful campaign for rights and democracy in China led to his internment in labour camps and jails throughout his life.

His world-famous ‘I have no enemies’ statement features as part of this performance.
