Composing Through Collaborative Performance

Part of Composers' Collective

Get creative at a workshop with composer/performer Joel Bell, who shares his techniques for composing, live devising and semi-improvised performance.

These techniques, developed over many years with performers from around the world, are demonstrated with the accompaniment of two distinguished Chinese musicians. Bring along your instrument or your voice to join in this practical session. Some percussion will be provided.

Bell is director of the Brunel Fusion Orchestra and Gokumi Ensemble and house guitarist for Peter Wiegold’s Club Inégales. He has performed and composed for musicians and ensembles globally, including Evan Parker, the BBC Singers, Lionel Loueke, Tim Garland, Martin Speake and world-class practitioners from near and far east traditions.

Presented by Chinese Arts Now as part of CAN Festival 2019 to celebrate the work of the best Chinese heritage artists working in the UK today across theatre, music, live art, dance, film and more.
