Friday Tonic: Clara Serra López

Part of Friday Tonic

The jazz vocalist, composer and arranger brings body-moving rhythm, flowing lines, raw lyrics and improvisation to a free Friday evening concert.

Inspired by grooves from Chicago to Havana, melodies from Erykah Badu to Sílvia Pérez Cruz and sounds from jazz to West African music, Clara Serra López is a classically trained musician who has been drawn to jazz and gospel voices from an early age.

Influences include Sarah Vaughan, Patti Austin and Billy Holiday, the songwriting of Joni Mitchell and Paul Simon, the improvisation of Herbie Hancock and Miles Davis as well as the Latin songs Serra López’s mother sang around the house.

Her project brings together some of the finest musicians in London, providing a creative, collaborative environment and a vehicle for individual expression.
