Kero Kero Bonito

Part of Nile Rodgers' Meltdown

Warped guitar solos, shining melodies, and unnervingly tender lyrics about yogurt and seafoam and feral parakeets: it’s the leftfield pop trio.

The sophomore full-length from Kero Kero Bonito, Time 'n' Place, is an album ineffably shaped by the subconscious.

Lead singer and chief lyricist Sarah Midori Perry (who was raised in the suburbs on the Japanese island Hokkaido) found herself rattled by recurring childhood images in her dreams. She later discovered that her childhood home had been demolished.

Time 'n' Place is a document of the band finding its voice, a coming-of-age story.

When they began writing the album, Kero Kero Bonito diverged from the carefree sensibilities of their early work, a form of kitsch electro-pop, and morphed into a more traditional band format.

Along with Midori Perry, producers and multi-instrumentalists Gus Lobban and Jamie Bulled make up the trio.

In their previous incarnation, they released mixtape Intro Bonito in 2014 and debut album Bonito Generation in 2016. Singles include ‘Flamingo’, ‘Trampoline’ and ‘Only Acting’.

Whether exploring rock, experimental or electronic music, Kero Kero Bonito’s mission is to challenge conformity in pop.
