Violet Nights: Novelist

Part of Violet Nights

The south London rapper shares his knowledge of being a DIY musician in a special edition of Violet Nights, our forum for ages people aged 18 – 30.

In an interactive discussion, Novelist brings his experience of being a DIY artist, from making music videos to gaining a Mercury Prize nomination for his album Novelist Guy, which was released on his own label.

What does it mean to be DIY? How do you build your career as an artist? Do you need the music industry? What can you do on your own?

This interactive discussion centres on what it takes to be a successful musician and how you can do it yourself.

Violet Nights is a space for young people to socialise and express their views on topical issues with music, performance and discussion.

In a more relaxed format to panel discussions, people aged 18 – 30 have the opportunity to exchange ideas and engage in issues that feel important to them, creating a real-life forum for online conversations.
