Tayari Jones: Silver Sparrow

This event has been cancelled as we are currently closed due to the coronavirus crisis.

The author of An American Marriage discusses her latest novel, a breathtaking story about the delicate threads that bind a family together.

In 1980s Atlanta, Chaurisse and Dana have a lot in common. They grew up in the same town, shop at the same stores, visit the same restaurants.

But unlike Chaurisse, Dana knows the truth: that the girls share the same father.

With lively wit and sensitivity, Silver Sparrow charts the complicated negotiation of lies and secrets between one family, weaving together themes of honesty, trust and racial injustice in a stunning feat of storytelling.

Tayari Jones is the internationally bestselling author of four novels, the most recent of which, An American Marriage, was selected for the Oprah Book Club with a first hardback printing of 400,000 copies.

It went on to win the 2019 Aspen Words Literary Prize, the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work, and the Women’s Prize for Fiction 2019.

Born in Atlanta, Georgia, she is currently Professor of Creative Writing at Emory University.
