Concrete Lates: Weval

Part of Concrete Lates

This event has been cancelled as we are currently closed due to the coronavirus crisis.

Amsterdam-based duo Weval light up the dancefloor with their own brand of playful, catchy electronic music.

Harm Coolen and Merijn Scholte Albers released their self-titled debut to huge acclaim in 2016, followed by The Weight in March 2019.

With accomplished albums that organically flow with emotional heft and an expanding narrative thread, they have won over a global fan base.

Their music takes on a new dimension in a live performance.

Support comes from Nik Void and KEYAH/BLU.

Also on hand is Queen Olive, part of our resident Concrete Lates DJ collective, SISU, which provides a platform to educate, inspire and showcase aspiring female DJs and producers, tackling gender inequality in dance music head on.

Coolen and Albers’s sense of pacing is impeccable, seemingly knowing exactly how long to tease each part for maximum effect before moving on to the next.
The real fun is in listening closely to, and marveling at, Weval’s craftsmanship. No two measures are exactly the same, the melodies draw memorable shapes, and the rhythms approach and recede in the ear
