Psychedelic, melancholy nu jazz? Find out what it sounds like at a free performance from the band fronted by Joshua Idehen and Alabaster DePlume.
Calabashed plant their flag somewhere between Alice Coltrane, Daedalus and the London nu jazz scene's daring adventurism.
Idehen and DePlume, introduced by Stephen Bass of Moshi Moshi Records, have expanded the group to include James Howard, Marysia Zofia Osuchowska, Donna Thompson and Raimund Wong.
While trading demos, the founding members worked on other projects: Idehen with bands including Benin City, Hugh and Sons of Kemet, while DePlume released fourth album The Corner of a Sphere.
Calabashed are working on their debut EP, produced by Danalogue (The Comet Is Coming, Snapped Ankles).
