This ensemble's contemporary vernacular speaks to a wealth of influences from the great jazz traditions.
The band have their own ‘contemporary straight ahead’ sound, rooted in tradition but with each instrument combining to create a fresh but recognisable palate.
The Gary Willcox Quartet was formed in 2007, and has since taken in venues including Ronnie Scott’s, The 606 Club and Jazz Café Posk.
Alongside Willcox’s compositions, influenced by popular music song forms, big bands, bebop and modal jazz, the band also reinterprets works by the giants of modern jazz including Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane and Ornette Coleman.
The members, between them, have a wealth of experience. They are Gary Willcox (drums & leader), Stephen Main (alto sax), Oli Hayhurst (double bass) and Gareth Williams (piano).
