Lean's 1945 film traces the repressed infidelity of a married doctor and suburban housewife who meet on a train platform. It features Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No.2 at various points – indeed, the film was largely responsible for making this passionate work famous in the UK.
A complete performance of Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No.2 precedes the screening, and the concert is introduced from the stage by the daughter of Celia Johnson, actor Lucy Fleming.
