Classical Weekends: Ligeti in Wonderland


Gyorgy Ligeti was a magician among composers. His music spins fantastical webs and plays impossible games, makes the listener gasp in wonder and, in some cases, laugh out loud.  

Among the generation of composers who burst on the scene after World War II, Ligeti was utterly distinctive, and counted among his obsessions Fractal Geometry, African music, spiders webs and Lewis Carroll, the author of Alice in Wonderland.
