Art Night is a free annual contemporary arts festival that transforms London for one unforgettable night, presenting acclaimed international art in unusual locations across the city.
This year’s trail is its most ambitious yet, running along the Thames from Southbank Centre through Nine Elms to Battersea. The festival is curated by Hayward Gallery, to celebrate the renowned institution’s reopening and to coincide with its 50-year anniversary.
Artworks will be sited across a dozen exceptional and historic sites along the trail, from cultural landmarks such as Hayward Gallery and the Garden Museum, to more unusual spaces including New Covent Garden Market, the British Interplanetary Society, Embassy Gardens, and the iconic Battersea Power Station.
The 2018 programme comprises new commissions by a number of artists. Jeremy Deller will present a new performance in collaboration with the Melodians Steel Orchestra. Tamara Henderson will respond to the New Covent Garden Market with a ‘Floral Ensemble’ musical performance. There will also be a public procession and performance by Marinella Senatore for thousands of people to take part in along the Art Night trail.
