Widely acknowledged as a key figure in the music of our time, as well as a leading interpreter of the standard piano repertoire, Pierre-Laurent Aimard enjoys an internationally celebrated career that transcends traditional boundaries.
Aimard’s three-year tenure as Artist-in-Residence began in September 2017, and has covered an celebration of birdsong with Aurora Orchestra and performances with the Australian Chamber Orchestra and the Philharmonia Orchestra.
He curated a weekend dedicated to the music of György Ligeti in 2018, and in 2019, he leads both a weekend exploration of the music of Stockhausen – featuring the ensemble Apartment House – and a concert of his works for two pianos and percussion.
This year, as part of the pianist's year-long Beethoven and the Avant Garde, which explores Beethoven and his influence on later composers, Aimard performs with Cologne’s Gürzenich Orchestra. François Xavier Roth conducts a concert that intersperses Beethoven’s music with works by Helmut Lachenmann, John Cage, Bernd Alois Zimmermann and a new commission by Isabel Mundry. Aimard is also in recital and joins forces with Aurora Orchestra.
