Classical music

Welcome to classical music at Southbank Centre.

We present close to 200 concerts a year alongside free events and more from the most exciting artists, conductors, orchestras and ensembles the world over.

Highlights of our 2018/19 season include two concerts from Andris Nelsons and the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, the first performances of Stockhausen’s Donnerstag aus Licht in the UK since 1985 and Mitsuko Uchida performing two Mozart piano concertos with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. There are recitals from Leonidas Kavakos and Yuja Wang, Maurizio Pollini, and Pierre-Laurent Aimard; a festival of new music by international composers, featuring London Sinfonietta, Ensemble Modern, Aurora Orchestra and Claire Chase, plus the European premiere of Philip Glass’s tribute to the chameleon pop genius of David Bowie.

Unmissable in July 2018: Chineke! Orchestra

Wayne Marshall conducts Chineke! in Copland’s Music for the Theater and Gershwin’s virtuoso jazz version of Rhapsody in Blue among other jazz-infused works.
