Southbank Centre boasts a rich heritage that extends all the way back to our roots in the 1951 Festival of Britain celebrations.
Through our wide-ranging archive collections and pioneering heritage programmes reveal the stories of over six decades of arts, architecture and cultural history that make Southbank Centre the place it is today. Our Heritage & Archive events, talks and exhibitions help bring these stories to life.
The programme of Heritage & Archive work we present is made possible through collaboration with a range of local, national and international archives, a host of creative practitioners and educators, and the generous financial support of our partners.
Begun in the 1980s as a labour of love by a member of our staff, Southbank Centre’s archive has grown to occupy more than 1.4km of shelving.
Situated on Level 2 of Royal Festival Hall, Our Archive Studio is a purpose-built space created by Jonathan Tuckey Design, it makes our archive function visible and our collections accessible for the first time
