Elhum Shakerifar

Elhum Shakerifar is a poet, translator, producer and curator who runs London-based production company Hakawati.

As a translator she is currently in residence at the National Centre for Writing, translating the work of poet Parinaz Fahimi, and previously worked alongside Maura Dooley on translations  of Azita Ghahreman’s PEN Award-winning ‘Negative of a Group Photograph’ and ‘A Glance’ which featured as a Poem on the Underground in June 2024.

As a producer Shakerifar received a BAFTA nomination for Outstanding Debut for 2015’s A Syrian Love Story; she is also the recipient of a British Film Institution Vision Award and the Women in Film & TV Factual Award. Her other credits include Even When I Fall (2017) and Ayouni (2020).

As a curator with particular interest in film from the Global Majority, Shakerifar has curated for London Film Festival, Shubbak – festival of contemporary Arab culture, Barbican, BFI, and is on the board of the Palestine Film Institute, co-curating the Palestine Film Platform.
