Jenn Nkiru

Jenn Nkiru is a British artist and film-maker whose work moves across cinema, visual art, music and cultural history. Drawing from experimental cinema, music, the archive and diasporic thought, Nkiru has developed a singular visual and sonic language, moving across time and geography through a process she describes as ‘cosmic archaeology’.

Her award-winning films include Rebirth Is Necessary and Black To Techno, alongside collaborations with artists including Beyoncé, Neneh Cherry, George Clinton and Kamasi Washington; her direction of Beyoncé’s ‘Brown Skin Girl’ won the 2021 Grammy for Best Music Video. Her debut feature documentary, The Great North, explores industrialisation, empire, migration and cultural memory through the histories and landscapes of northern England. Nkiru is also the founder of MOTHERSHIP, her cultural ecosystem spanning film, sound, publishing and live cultural programming.
