Sauti
Meet our flagship choir who aim to uplift audiences with their remarkable versatile voices
Sauti – meaning ‘voice’ in Swahili – is our flagship choir, comprising young Black and Black mixed heritage female and non-binary singers aged 18 – 32.
Led by Tawiah, this auditioned choir was first brought together in 2024 for Chaka Khan’s Meltdown where they accompanied anaiis in her Purcell Room gig, before performing on stage with Khan and the Nu Civilisation Orchestra at the festival’s closing concert.
Boasting a strong sense of community and belonging, Sauti seeks to uplift and transform the experience of their audiences through excellence. Their unique voices compliment each other, but also blend beautifully as a stunning acapella ensemble.
The choir meets throughout the year to work on bespoke projects connected to our artistic programming here at the Southbank Centre and related opportunities.
A versatile ensemble, Sauti is interested in collaborating with high profile artists and live bands across a range of genres including R&B, gospel, jazz, soul/neo soul, funk and experimental and improvised music. They’re also passionate about exploring different cultures within the Black diaspora through music and language.
