Gift acceptance statement
We take all reasonable steps to ensure we know the source of funding of major donations and sponsorship before we accept them.
To support this we conduct due diligence on major supporters and we have a sponsorship and donations acceptance and refusal policy to guide us.
This policy is informed by rules determined by the Charity Commission and guidance issued by the Institute of Fundraising which states that donations should only be rejected when:
- it would be unlawful to accept it (e.g. the donation is the proceeds of crime, the donor is on a UK sanctions list); or
- accepting the donation would cause harm to the Southbank Centre which outweighs the benefit of having the funds from the donor.
Our Governors are ultimately responsible for decisions as to whether to accept or refuse donations in the best interests of the charity. The Donations and Conflicts of Interest Oversight Committee, a subcommittee of the board, reviews our sources of funding and makes recommendations to the full board where a gift or sponsorship needs their approval.
