Modern slavery and human trafficking statement 2024

This is our sixth Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement to be posted publicly on our website.

The Southbank Centre is a multi-form arts venue based on the South Bank of the River Thames in London.

Part of our operations include the running and management of three concert halls – the Royal Festival Hall, the Queen Elizabeth Hall and the Purcell Room. Southbank Centre also includes the Hayward Gallery and the National Poetry Library.

Southbank Centre welcomes the opportunity to set out the steps that we have taken, and that we will take, to tackle modern slavery and human trafficking in our supply chains and own operations.

Since our last statement, published in 2023, Southbank Centre has taken the following actions:

  • launched a new staff training programme to raise awareness and understanding about how to identify and tackle Modern Slavery, as well as the requirements of the Modern Slavery Act 2015. This training will form a part of onboarding and ongoing training for staff;
  • undertook a review of our Anti-Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Policy;
  • continued a review of our key supply chains, including arrangements with prospective partners, and third party suppliers providing catering, security, cleaning, and maintenance services to Southbank Centre, ensuring robust contractual obligations and processes are in place to mitigate the risk of modern slavery in our supply chains; and
  • continued to require new commercial tenants pay their staff the London Living Wage and to comply with modern slavery laws.

Over the coming 12 months, Southbank Centre will:

  • update the our Anti-Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Policy and ensure the Policy forms part of continued staff training;
  • review our standard contracts (including commercial licences and artistic agreements) and update as necessary to ensure appropriate modern slavery obligations; and
  • request that existing commercial tenants (on legacy leases without London Living Wage and/or modern slavery obligations) undertake to make such commitments moving forwards.

Approved by Southbank Centre’s People Committee of the Board on 28 October 2024.
