Modern slavery and human trafficking statement 2025

This is our seventh Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement to be posted publicly on our website.

The Southbank Centre is a multi-form arts venue based on the South Bank of the River Thames in London.

Part of our operations include the running and management of three concert halls – the Royal Festival Hall, the Queen Elizabeth Hall and the Purcell Room. Southbank Centre also includes the Hayward Gallery and the National Poetry Library.

Southbank Centre welcomes the opportunity to set out the steps that we have taken, and that we will take, to tackle modern slavery and human trafficking in our supply chains and own operations.

Since our last statement, published in 2024, Southbank Centre has taken the following actions:

  • embedded a staff training programme, to raise awareness and understanding about how to identify and tackle Modern Slavery, as well as the requirements of the Modern Slavery Act 2015, into Southbank Centre’s internal e-learning management system, enabling effective internal oversight of training uptake and dissemination of training-related communications;
  • reviewed our commercial licence agreements and standard artistic agreements and updated as necessary to ensure appropriate modern slavery obligations;
  • continued a review of our key supply chains, including arrangements with prospective partners, and third party suppliers, ensuring robust contractual obligations and processes are in place to mitigate the risk of modern slavery in our supply chains; and
  • continued to require new commercial tenants pay their staff the London Living Wage and to comply with modern slavery laws.

Over the coming 12 months, Southbank Centre will:

  • review and if necessary update the our Anti-Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Policy; and
  • request that existing commercial tenants (on legacy leases without London Living Wage and/or modern slavery obligations) undertake to make such commitments moving forwards.

Approved by Southbank Centre’s People and Nominations Committee of the Board on 31 October 2025.
