About Us! Artists' Scratch Showcase
Join us for an evening of exciting new work from six artists, interwoven with poetry and hosted by the curator and lead scratch artist, Awate.
Get a glimpse behind the curtain of creation and imagination. Six artists take to the floor to share new works in progress and audiences are invited to give feedback and ask questions in a safe, communal space to help lift up artists.
The artists featured in this showcase are ali akhtar, Shubhan Iyer, Davy Lazare, Shanmukha Priya Mohan, Imisi Peletu and Yafei Zheng.
This event is open to all audiences wanting to experience work in its initial stages of development, and applications to present work are open to artists aged over 18 from a global majority background (or tackling the subjects of diaspora and migration), whether you’re a writer, musician, dancer, filmmaker, designer or anything in between.
In the past we have had films inspired by Greek mythology, stylists presenting their original textile designs, stand up comedy, powerful rap music, innovative piano performances, and short plays reflecting on the trans experience.
After presenting at our Scratch event, artists have gone onto embarking on their first UK music tours, had their short-films made/presented at the BFI London Film Festival, secured options from high-profile TV production companies, started their own regular comedy nights, and found lasting connections with other artists in the audience or presenting alongside them.
This Scratch Showcase is a collaboration between Awate, Counterpoints Arts and the Southbank Centre.

Scratch events are inclusive and open to artists and creatives who identify as deaf, neurodivergent or disabled. Please contact [email protected] to discuss access and support needs.

The Clore Ballroom is open six days a week.
Tuesday, 10am – 6pm*
Wednesday – Sunday, 10am – 11pm
Monday, closed.
*If we’re hosting a performance, the building will stay open until the event ends.

Please note that we’re unable to accept cash payments across our venues.
Access
We’re working hard to remove barriers, so that our facilities and events can be accessible to as many people as possible.
All help points, toilets, performance and exhibition spaces at the Southbank Centre are accessible to all, as are the cafes, bars and restaurants. We also have excellent public transport links with step-free access.
There is step-free access to The Clore Ballroom, Level 2, Royal Festival Hall, via a ramp.

Food & drink
Next to The Clore Ballroom is our Ballroom Cafe where you can grab a coffee and a piece of freshly made cake. Also on Level 2 of our Royal Festival Hall you can grab a slice of life by the Thames with drinks and freshly made pizza at our Festival Bar & Kitchen which opens out onto our Riverside Terrace.
From coffee to cocktails, filling favourites to fine dining, plus some of London’s best street food – it’s all here at the Southbank Centre.
