African Manifest: Sounds of South Africa

Take in the sounds of South Africa, featuring dancing workshops, choirs, marimba bands and South African jazz legends.

2pm – 3pm: Imbube UK Singers
Imbube UK will be performing a celebration of South African choral music followed by a dance workshop to learn some moves. Imbube UK is a unique organisation formed of the most talented and professional African artists and musicians based in the UK. Imbube have toured the world, singing traditional gospel songs and are also specialists in Zulu dancing and drumming.

3pm – 4pm: Chanty 74
Chantel is a vibrant and dynamic creative spirit from the heart of South Africa, known not only for her groundbreaking designs but also for her soulful DJ sets. Her sets blend eclectic genres to create an atmosphere that resonates deeply with the audience, with each track carefully selected to celebrate life, connection and the human spirit.

4pm – 5pm: Otto & The Mutapa Calling
Otto & The Mutapa Calling is a London-based marimba band playing energetic, joyful music from South Africa, Zimbabwe and Botswana, including folk songs, original songs and popular southern African covers. The band’s set-up includes soprano and baritone marimbas, drumming and singing, with both traditional and contemporary dances. The marimba band’s sound is full of energy and pulsating rhythms – and the band’s music shares the rich cultures, histories and stories of the people of southern Africa.

5pm – 6pm: Chanty 74
Chanty 74 returns for a second set.

6pm – 7pm: Claude Deppa & Clare Hirst Band
The Claude Deppa & Clare Hirst Band is a vibrant collective with infectious rhythms and eclectic compositions. Led by the dynamic duo, their music is a fusion of township jive, Brazilian samba, and Jamaican reggae. They play music from their new album, Beyond Bahula, which spans influences from Abdullah Ibrahim and Julian Bahulah to Ornette Coleman and beyond.
