Amol K Patil: The Politics of Skin and Movement
This exhibition used drawings, poetry, sculpture, kinetic objects and moving images, and drew on the art and political activism of Amol K Patil’s family in Mumbai
The artist’s grandfather was a poet, and his father an avant-garde playwright.
Addressing the current situation of workers and casteism, Patil used his installation to explore the relationship between the body and the urban environment, striving to connect the past, present and future.
His work also touched upon the issue of real and imaginary borders which limit access and movement for his community.
Amol K Patil lives and works in Mumbai and Amsterdam. He works with performance, installation, sculpture and painting. Recent exhibitions include the Kochi-Muziris Biennale in 2023, documenta fifteen in 2022 and the Yokohama Triennale in 2020. This is Patil’s first solo exhibition in the UK.
Amol K Patil is the recipient of the inaugural Durjoy Bangladesh Foundation/Kochi-Muziris Biennale (DBF-KMB) Award.
The DBF-KMB Award is a new, multi-year exhibition and lecture programme presented in partnership with the Durjoy Bangladesh Foundation and the Kochi Biennale Foundation.
It offers an emerging South Asian artist participating in the biennale the opportunity to present their first institutional solo show in the UK at the Hayward Gallery’s HENI Project Space.
