Big Joanie
The UK-based Black feminist punk band returns to the Meltdown stage, merging the fury of 1990s riot grrrl with synth-heavy post punk.
The last time the band played at the Southbank Centre was for a sold-out performance at Grace Jones’s Meltdown festival in 2022.
Not ones to sit on their laurels, they’re back for more, and they’ve got even more fire power this time round.
Big Joanie’s second album, Back Home, released in November 2022, ranked in Rolling Stone’s top albums of the year list.
Back Home reflects Big Joanie’s DIY roots and unique brand of feminist punk, while exploring new sonic territory.
The band’s contribution to the canon of Black artists in alternative music earned them a nomination for Best Alternative Music Act at the 2022 MOBO Awards.
