The Black British Book Festival is Europe’s largest celebration of Black literature

Champion emerging talent, hear from leading voices and discover your new favourite Black authors at this family festival that aims to banish barriers to entry.

Founded by Selina Brown in 2021, this festival lauds the work of Black British authors across all genres and provides a platform for up-and-coming writers in a national event that attracts a live audience of over 4,000 people.

To showcase the UK's best Black authors – alongside leading content creators, influencers and journalists – the festival has partnered with major publishers including Pan Macmillan, Hachette, Penguin and SAGE.

The Black British Book Festival is embarking on an initiative to take over 20 Black British authors on a book tour across the UK, delivering vibrant pop-up events in non-traditional spaces such as chicken shops, hairdressers, sportswear shops and shopping centres.

By directly engaging with communities that are currently not reached by the publishing industry, the festival aims to democratise literature, making it more accessible to people who may not have had the chance to engage with books before.

An eagle-eyed focus on emerging talent and a commitment to reaching marginalised communities make the Black British Book Festival a singularly valuable contributor to the literary landscape of the UK.
