Funk This with New Movementz UK
Who will be crowned dance battle champion of Chaka Khan’s Meltdown? Compete or witness the best young dance talent go head-to-head for the title and prize.
As evidenced by the music videos for ‘I Feel For You’ and ‘Like Sugar’, dance has always been at the centre of Chaka Khan’s musical expression.
Hosted by D’Eli (Hosts of Move It 2023 & 2024), dancers are invited to register for the battles and warm up in a fun workshop to sharpen your hip-hop skills. There’s no need for special clothes or equipment – come as you are, whether you’re a seasoned dancer or it’s your first time shaking a leg to the sound of hip-hop and house music.
Schedule
1pm – 2pm: DJ set and battle registration
2pm – 2.45pm: dance workshop
3pm – 3.45pm: dancer pre-selection rounds
3.45pm – 5.45pm: all battle rounds
6pm – 6.30pm: battle finals
6.30pm – 7.30pm: DJ set
From the start of the day, dancers can register for the battles and warm up in a cypher, dancing to the sounds of DJ Josh Franklin and DJ Josh.
Battle pre-selection involves dancers competing against each other. Judges select the top dancer to compete in the main battle for each category.
Categories: 1v1 Hip-Hop, Popping and All Styles.
Joining as our judges are some of the best dancers in the battle scene including Omni (Grand finalist, BBC Young Dancer 2022) , Caine (40+ dance battle wins since 2021), Hannah (MJ the Musical, Ed Sheeran’s ‘Bad Habits’ music video).
New Movementz under-18s dance battle was the first UK event created to provide a safe space for young dancers to enter the battle scene and learn how to compete against their peers. This event not only gives a glimpse into the future of the UK battle scene but also showcases the incredible talent of young dancers we have right now.
