Idrîsî Ensemble

Delving back into the rich history of Mediterranean medieval music, the collective offers up a window into a world gone by.

Idrîsî Ensemble reprise their tribute to the trobairitz (Occitan women troubadours of the 12th and 13th centuries), interlacing Armenian, Greek, Roman, French and Corsican instrumental and vocal music to capture the spiritual heart of medieval Occitania.

Together they give voice to female troubadours – poet-composers on the fringe of medieval Christendom.

As the sole UK ensemble specialised in the performance of Old Roman chant, Idrîsî has developed a stunningly ornate and microtonal form of singing for this ancient repertoire grounded in medieval treatises and Mediterranean traditions.

With never-recorded music, original reconstructions, and Idrîsî’s distinctive flair, this promises to be an entrancing, ear-opening evening.
