Mix & Move: Ballroom and Latin Blend

Beat the wintery blues with a warm and welcoming introduction to ballroom and Latin dancing from legend Jacky Logan.

Part of Open Doors

Showcasing dance styles and dancers from across the globe, Mix & Move is our monthly programme of dance workshops to get you moving to the music.

Jacky Logan is a ballroom dancer, Fitsteps instructor and dance DJ, running ‘Jacky’s Jukebox’ for more than 30 years. Under her superb guidance, learn the steps that form the foundations of popular ballroom and Latin dance styles, ranging from quickstep, waltz and jive to rumba and cha cha.

These sessions will be assisted by Darren Whitby. Darren is a UK, European and International Trophy Equality Dance champion and teaches ballroom and Latin across London.

They are joined by resident dancers Damien Anyasi and Natasha Khamjani, who provide seated adaptations and alternatives for every body so that you can light up the dance floor and discover new rhythms.

You don’t need to be a dancer, nor have experience or a partner: Mix & Move is just about getting together and getting going to the music!

Timings
3pm – 5pm: dance workshop
5pm – 6pm: social dance

Each Mix & Move event offers you the chance to explore different forms of dance, learn new moves and meet new people. Running in blocks of three, come along to get to grips with a dance style for two sessions, and then break out your moves in the final social dance session, celebrating the sounds and the moves of the dance.

Jacky Logan has been campaigning for over 30 years to make ballroom and Latin dancing between same-sex partnerships acceptable in all ballroom dance venues across the country. In 2020, she was awarded a BEM (British Empire Medal) for her contribution to services to same-sex ballroom dancing.
