Rachmaninov & Prokofiev with Daniel Lozakovich

Spellbinding violinist Daniel Lozakovich joins the Philharmonia Orchestra for Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No.2, a work full of colours and contrasts.

Lyrical, long-breathed melodies fill the first two movements of the piece.

But the violin’s singing lines are tinged with darkness, and give way to a stumbling dance in the finale – a chance to experience different facets of Lozakovich’s ‘exceptional talent’ (Le Figaro).

Lozakovich was born in 2001, and signed by Deutsche Grammophon at just 15 years old.

Rachmaninov’s Second Symphony is widely considered one of the composer’s best works: this is unabashed Romanticism at its best.

The symphony boasts many memorable moments, including the stormy horn motif that opens the second movement, and the singing clarinet theme of the third – one of the most beautiful melodies Rachmaninov ever wrote.
