Renée Levi: September
The Swiss artist’s bold and expressive large-scale outdoor artwork transforms and animates the iconic facade of the Hayward Gallery.
September is a vibrant two-panel painting created by Renée Levi, directly engaging with the Hayward Gallery’s renowned brutalist exterior.
This ambitious new co-commission by the Hayward Gallery and Audemars Piguet Contemporary takes the building’s distinctive texture, protrusions and windows as its starting point. Framing these elements with splashes of explosive colour to create a bold and joyous surface, the work both conceals and reveals the concrete underneath.
Like many of Levi’s creations, this artwork translates her bodily and painterly gestures into a vivid, humorous and emotion-filled visual experience.
Trained as an architect, Levi has continuously explored and challenged the relationship between space, architecture and painting. September marks her first large-scale public commission in the UK.
September is co-commissioned by the Hayward Gallery and Audemars Piguet Contemporary.

Access
We’re working hard to remove barriers, so that our facilities and events can be accessible to as many people as possible.
All help points, toilets, performance and exhibition spaces at the Southbank Centre are accessible to all, as are the cafes, bars and restaurants. We also have excellent public transport links with step-free access.

Exhibition tours
Guided tours of our Hayward Gallery exhibitions are available to ticket holders; the dates and times of these can be found when you click through to book your exhibition tickets.
If you’d like to arrange a private/group tour of an exhibition, please contact us. The Hayward Gallery does not accept external tour guides or tour groups – all exhibition tours must be arranged through the Southbank Centre.
