Samuel Laurence Cunnane in Conversation
Photographer Samuel Laurence Cunnane takes us through the ideas behind the enigmatic images in his Blue Road exhibition.
Cunnane sits down with the exhibition’s curator Thomas Sutton to delve into his photography and the themes that run through his Blue Road exhibition in the HENI Project Space, Hayward Gallery.
Cunnane is a Kerry-based analogue photographer who develops his colour prints by hand in his darkroom studio.
Cunnane travels across Europe and beyond for long periods, capturing the fleeting scenes he encounters. The results are luminous images that reveal remarkable beauty hidden in plain sight.
In contrast to the high-speed nature of contemporary digital image-making, Cunnane encourages viewers to look more intently in moments of stillness. His finely-attuned attention to light and atmosphere reveals the world more fully.

We’re working hard to remove barriers, so that our facilities and events can be accessible to as many people as possible.

Exhibition tours
Guided tours of our Hayward Gallery exhibitions are available to ticket holders; the dates and times of these can be found when you click through to book your exhibition tickets.
If you’d like to arrange a private/group tour of an exhibition, please contact us. The Hayward Gallery does not accept external tour guides or tour groups – all exhibition tours must be arranged through the Southbank Centre.
