THE DELUSION: I Can’t Move With You

Sat 12 Sep & Sun 13 Sep 2026

Brave a post-apocalyptic world and play artist Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley’s interactive game exploring cooperation and collective action in a polarised society.

Run time 7 hours and 30 minutes (approx)
Free – no ticket required

Enter Brathwaite-Shirley’s bewitching vision of an imagined future, where the world has been shaped by a catastrophic event: the ‘Day of Division’.

The Day of Division has broken society into closed, dogmatic factions, each clinging to its own version of truth, community and survival. Now, it’s down to you to work through it.

Work together to move a ball through maze-like levels, navigating obstacles and opinions archived from the daily news cycle. Conceived as a meeting space, the game’s controller – a tilting table called THE UNIFIER – becomes a metaphor for negotiation, cooperation and collective action.

Developed using the community-built, open-source game engine UPBGE, and bringing together artists, technologists, researchers and members of Brathwaite-Shirley’s Black Trans and Queer community, I Can’t Move With You aims to create a space to rehumanise connection and enable honest exchange amid the deep social polarisation that characterises today’s online interactions.

Originally commissioned for THE DELUSION, a multiplayer experience combining cooperative gaming with participatory theatre to explore polarisation, censorship, social connection and the civic potential of video games.

I Can’t Move With You, 2025. Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley. Commissioned and produced by Serpentine Arts Technologies. Made possible by Glass Castle Foundation.
