Through the Fire with Sisters in Dub
The all-women chariot of fire reignites the sound system flare on the terrace as we spark our second weekend of Chaka Khan’s Meltdown.
Sisters in Dub are an all-women Reggae sound system collective composed of Danniella Dee, Cherelle Harding and DJ Kat The Katalyst.
Representing women in a male-dominated space, they play a mix of meditative dub, deep roots reggae and energetic steppas.
Coventry natives, all three of the sisters have unique musical journeys. From classical training, gospel, reggae, 2-tone foundations and growing up in sound system families.
Taking influence from Khan’s iconic discography and talent as a world renowned percussionist, they use live instruments and djembe drumming to create a unique, vibrant performance, whilst retaining an authentic Jamaican sound system vibe.
The event begins with a performance by Kinetika Bloco, drawing influences from around the globe – the Caribbean, Brazil, Africa and New Orleans – bringing a unique new British carnival sound.
One of the Southbank Centre’s Creative Learning Partners, Kinetika Bloco engages young people from south London in long-term creative activity, advancing their education, skills and capacity for learning and leadership.
