Jill Abram Presents: Steve Ely launching 'Orasaigh' & 'Apocalyptic Landscape'

Fri 1 Nov 2024, 7pm

Venue: The Devereux Pub, London

Address: 20 Devereux Court, London, WC2R 3JJ

Celebrating the launch of two new books.

The poems in the ‘Apocalyptic Landscape’ anthology emerged from a short course devised by Steve Ely, in which participants were encouraged to write responses to the crises of the Anthropocene in the context of landscapes important to them. Katy Evans Bush, J P Seabright, Martyn Crucefix, Anita Pati, Caroline Maldonado and Jill Abram will read their pieces from the anthology, as well as a selection of other work.

‘Orasaigh’ is a collaboration between Ely and photographer Michael Faint, inspired by the landscape around the tidal island of Orasaigh in the Outer Hebrides. Ely’s poem roams widely, exploring a range of themes related to the Hebrides and the wider world – sea-level rise, the crisis of the ‘sixth extinction’, history, culture, politics, conflict and class. The poet will read extracts in the second half of this event.

The event is free but ticketed. Doors open 6.30.
