Selected Poems and Essays by Alice Meynell: Carcanet Online Book Launch

Carcanet launches a new collection: Selected Poems and Essays by Alice Meynell. This is the first anthology of her verse and prose to be published for over seventy-five years. Meynell was a major British author of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and was highly regarded both as a poet and as a writer of essays. The selection includes early romantic poems and her less personal poems of her maturity. There is also a broad sample of Meynell’s literary essays reflecting on literature, culture and the natural world.

The event will be hosted by Sarah Parker, featuring readings and discussion with the book’s editor, Alex Wong, along with the author’s great-granddaughter, Laura Mulvey. There will also be time for audience members to ask questions.  The text will be shown during the readings so that participants can read along.
