Magical places and new approaches: online writing workshops with Clare Shaw and Anna Chilvers

A series of online writing workshops exploring moors, swamps and other boggy places. There will be a consideration of the unique ecology, fascinating folklore and haunted histories – and asking- what can be learnt from bogs? What is needed from humans? How can that seep into writing?

With poet Clare Shaw and novelist Anna Chilvers, there will be a learning of how these magical landscapes can guide people into new and exciting ways of writing – in stories, poetry and creative non-fiction.

Anna Chilvers (Bluemoose) and Clare Shaw (Bloodaxe) are popular writers and facilitators who have authored and edited 14 books between them – including novels, poetry and creative non-fiction. In 2025, they co-edited “The Book of Bogs”, featuring leading writers of ecology, nature and place.

The workshops will be on Wednesday mornings from 10am-12 noon on the following dates:

18 March

15 April

20 May

17 June

22 July

19 August
